Nature Tours for Birding, Wildlife, sightseeing & Photography in Calgary and Alberta
custom tour options:
Calgary has some incredible hidden gems right in the city, and I’d love to show them to you. These are casual, <3 hour walks through my favorite parks and pathways where I share my knowledge about birds, plants, and our urban ecosystem. Nothing too intense, just a good time outdoors.
The Day Tripper: Mountains, Badlands or Wherever
Love the city walks but ready for something a bit more... “out there"? Let’s ditch the urban hustle and hit the highway.
Let’s call it "casual-plus": with a full day blend of scenic road-tripping, destination stops, and micro-hikes. It’s easy enough for anyone, but rugged enough to feel like a real adventure. If you’re down for a little dirt on your boots, a lot of scenery, let’s go.
Ready to really get after it? The Big Day is for the folks who want to go "Full-Send”. We’ve got up to 12 hours to play with, and we’re going to use every bit of it. This isn't a pre-set tour, it’s a custom mission based entirely on what you’re chasing.
Whether you want to grind out a personalized mountain hike or you’re looking to pull off a birding marathon, we’re making it happen. We’ll keep the pace comfortable, but we’re going deep. If you're looking to seriously pad your life list, this is the way to do it.
So, you’re on your way to Calgary and have an idea that just seems out of the ordinary. Hey, I love adventuring and know what it’s like to have an oddball bucket list item. To say the least, I’m probably down. You bring the idea; I’ll bring the bear spray and a plan. Send me a note and let’s figure out how to make it happen.

Why go exploring with Matt?
I offer guided nature tours in Calgary and across Alberta focused on wildlife, birding, urban ecology, sightseeing, and photography. These are relaxed, customizable outdoor experiences designed for all ages and abilities, whether you want a casual or chill walk through Calgary parks or a full day exploring Alberta’s landscapes.
I am a naturalist, photographer, and conservation minded guide with a deep focus on Alberta’s ecosystems, from urban green spaces to the foothills and beyond. I have logged over 40,000 observations on iNaturalist and completed more than 1,300 eBird checklists across diverse habitats. I have also delivered over 50 public talks and workshops on citizen science, including birding, wildlife observation, and urban ecology.
I hold a BSc in Geography from the University of Calgary with a specialization in urban ecosystem science, along with First Aid and CPR certification. My background includes field work as a wildlife biologist and organizing large scale community science projects such as the Calgary Christmas Bird Count and Calgary City Nature Challenge.
Every experience is fully customized. That can mean sightseeing, slow nature walks, birding focused outings, or simple wandering through parks and neighbourhoods at your pace.
I always carry my camera, and photography is included in every tour with images provided afterward.
These are flexible, informal experiences built around curiosity, connection, and discovering places most people walk past without noticing.
